Wagner de Lima Figueiredo and his beloved horse, Sereno, were inseparable. In the young man’s free time, they were always seen together in the city of Cajazeiras, in the state of Paraiba, in the north of Brazil.
But Wagner, 34, died due to injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident last Monday, January 2.
The following Thursday the funeral was held and his family and friends gathered to make the procession in his honor and his brother Wando, knowing the love they had with Sereno, decided to take him with them to walk to the cemetery. But no one expected what happened.

His horse was very important in his life.
When the vehicle carrying Wagner’s body was arriving at the cemetery, Sereno realized that the body of his best friend was inside. He began to walk around the coffin smelling it, looking for Wagner and realizing that he was dead, Sereno neighed. Then he laid his head on the coffin.
It was a very strong and emotional moment. Those present were surprised and burst into tears because of the horse’s attitude, touching each of those who were next to him.
This is the moment when Sereno lays his head back.
For the beautiful animal there was no consolation: at that moment he understood that he had lost his friend.

Wagner’s brother Wando was crying next to the horse.
After the emotional moment, they continued in procession to the cemetery.
“This horse was everything to him. It was as if the horse understood what was happening and wanted to say goodbye,” Wando told the local press.
But this was not the only time the horse cried Wagner. After accompanying the procession through the streets of the city, minutes before he was buried, his friends dedicated a few words to him and Sereno again began to neigh with grief. “All the way to the cemetery he was crying and hitting the ground with his hooves,” said Wando, who walked with the horse to the cemetery.
Sometimes there are people who think that animals do not understand the cycle of life and that for them the loss of someone close is not important, but Sereno’s behavior removes any doubt we have about it. Now Sereno will live with Wando, who will be in charge of trying to take care of him in the same way as his brother did.
The beautiful animal could not contain the sadness and also said goodbye to him before the coffin was buried.
His sadness reached each of those present, making the funeral even more emotional.
