A little baby bear was given the opportunity to continue living thanks to a noble person who appeared just in time on her way and who did everything possible to save her.
The quiet and normal life of Nikolay Vasilievich Terletsky changed forever the morning he found a baby bear in a forest adjoining his house in Belarus. The creature was hungry and in very bad condition, it had moved away from its mother and no matter how hard Nikolay tried to locate it, he could not do it.

Nikolay lives in Borisov and owns a farm called “Kolyanich”, which he manages with his children; in addition to a cottage complex that he rents to tourists and fishermen.
The morning the bear appeared, one of her workers informed her that he had found a cute teddy bear, and Nikolay thought it was a joke.
However, his opinion changed when checking the condition of the baby bear.
The creature was very weak, he had days without eating so Nikolay decided to call the specialists. The man did not imagine that it would be he who would have to take responsibility for the little bear.
“I called the wildlife staff and the rangers I knew. I was sure they would find the mom around the area. However, they did not locate her.”,
Nikolay also contacted a zoo, but they explained that they could not keep her at that time. For that reason, the Belarusian called emergencies to take care of the matter. What he never imagined was the solution they would give him.
“They came with a cage to sacrifice her,” Nikolay related. For obvious reasons the man immediately ruled out that possibility and refused to hand it over.
The staff then suggested that he leave her in the same place where he had found her, but he knew that then the bear would run the risk of starving to death.
At that moment Nikolay saw no way out but to adopt her, it would be he who would take care of taking care of her and feeding her. Since the possession of these animals is illegal, the ministry of fauna signed a document in which they allowed him to keep the bear on the condition that he build him a suitable environment.
At that time, Nikolay was engaged in bringing forward the bear he christened Vasilisa.
After a veterinary checkup, it was determined that this baby was just 3 months old so she needed special care. But none of that was inconvenient for this man.
This farmer’s life changed that April when the bear appeared on his property. For him she is like his baby and, since the bear is growing up, he hopes to build her a more suitable space in which she can live fully.
“My dream is to fence off a piece of forest and set up a space for her to stay here, in nature (…) until I see with my own eyes where she will live, I will not abandon her,” he said.
Nikolay deserves everyone’s respect by standing up to regulations and betting on life. This bear could have been sacrificed, but the goodwill and love of this man prevailed.
He has taken care of the bear since she was a puppy and now two years have passed in which the friendship and bond became stronger.
For the Belarusian, the bear is more than an animal in his care, it is part of his family and that is why he has done his best to ensure a quality life.
He dreams that he can develop on his own land, free from hunters, but he does not know if the law allows him to do so.
Nikolay has faced some demands from neighbors who do not agree with the presence of the bear in the place, this despite the fact that the forest is the habitat of dozens of brown bears.
