Everyone started to recognize this gorilla thanks to Mathieu Shamavu’s photo. The animal’s name is Ndakasi, which stood like a human and was photographed on camera.
They met years ago when two rangers went to find a young gorilla in the forest who had been orphaned because his mother had been killed along with other relatives by hunters.
He took them to the wildlife rescue center in Virunga National Park. It was here that Ndeze was brought, who also lost his relatives and was left alone.
The cubs were too small and weak to live in the wild without their parents. and the center was quite close to nature and could be safer and more comfortable for the animals.
Losing his family, Ndeze desperately needed adult protection and care. But these employees were so attached to the animal that they were able to populate its family.
Unfortunately, he fell ill and died soon after in the arms of one of the rescuers, André Bauma.
According to Andre, it has been a privilege for him to take care of this wonderful creature over the years, especially knowing the touching story Ndakasi had as a child.
