Having both of her feet removed at the age of one, Tennessee child Sapphyre Johnson has made a wonderful new buddy in Lt. Dan, a white German Shepherd dog lacking a paw.
Due to a congenital abnormality, Sapphyre had to have both of her feet amputated and was left with missing digits.
She underwent multiple surgery at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Greenville, when she was 3 months old to get prosthetic feet.
Lt. Dan was 9 weeks old when she took him in as her own. In a litter of 9 puppies, he was the lone pup born without a front paw.
Breeders advised Lt. Dan’s owner Karen Riddle to let the puppy down due to his issues.
She was determined to find the doggie a special needs owner who would be a suitable match for the puppy, but she wouldn’t give up on him.
Fortunately, she was made known to Riddle when she phoned Shriners Hospital.
She was confident that Sapphyre would be a wonderful home for Lt. Dan and that they would bond particularly well.
L.t. Dan was also decided upon by the Johnson family as being the ideal addition to their home.
“She took a bit to study the dog photo I originally gave her before identifying it as her pet.
Elaine, a child life expert for the Shriners, stated, “He’s just like me.”
He is a unique doggie and will go to a special kid.
The moment the two met, they hit it off and became fast friends.
Lieutenant Dan and Sapphyre developed a particular relationship as a result of her devotion for him.

These two were undoubtedly brought together by destiny, and we believe that the girl will feel more secure in her life and that the doggie will assist her communicate her limitations to other kids.
When Lt. Dan is large enough to equal Sappyhyre’s prophecy-matched legs, Shriners have promised to build a prosthetic foot for him as well.
