The latter happened in Tinsukia, Assam, a city in India, where a machine belonging to the State Bank of India (SBI) stopped working for 12 days, causing bank technicians to go to the place to fix it. However, they would never have imagined what they would find inside.

Rat enters an ATM in India and eats thousands of dollars
In an interview for ‘Reuters’ on June 21, 2018, the bank branch manager in Tinsukia, identified as Chandan Sharma, explained the “rare incident”:

How did the rat get into the ATM?
Although the security camera did not record any movement of the rodent inside the ATM, an official of the Sijuguri police station, named Mugdhajyoti Dev, gave his hypothesis to the Indian newspaper ‘Hindustan Times’ in an interview on June 20, 2018.
There he explained that the rat entered the machine through a small hole that was originally intended for electrical wires. As such, they ruled out the idea of a vandalism act of a human nature.
“We have checked and there is no other criminal or conspiracy angle to the incident. It appears that the rat entered the machine through a small opening for some wires.”
