Most dogs are very fond of swimming, while others are afraid of water. A water accident can prevent a dog from swimming for life. For Akela, swimming was a fun and playful activity until she became trapped in muddy waters.
A man who lived nearby saw a dog trying to swim in a dirty pond and called people for help. According to the man, Akela avoided a collision with a car and got stuck in a pond. She tried to swim to shore, but to no avail.
So the Washington, New Jersey Police Department rushed to rescue the dog.
When the police arrived at the scene, they saw him swimming in a dirty pond. He became entangled in the plants and at times his head even sank into the mud.
The officers had to think quickly until Akela was completely defeated. Then he boarded and swam towards him. Someone on the shore filmed everything that was happening.
He tried to drag him onto the boat, but he was too heavy.
They tied the ball to the end of a long leash and threw it to each other and pulled it ashore. They managed to free the dog from the mud.
Akela was in good shape when he went ashore. He was unharmed and seemed quite happy. The puppy was even photographed after he was rescued.
He was in a good mood after his ordeal and even posed for a few photos.
The police also said they are still looking for Akela’s family. They are urging anyone who knows where Akela lives to contact the police or animal control.
